Outdoor advertising in Novi Sad

The prior consent of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad. The city act counts an advertising structure as urban equipment, and inside a heritage zone such equipment goes up only through the institute. There are two such zones:

• the historic core on the left bank — a block drawn as a named list of streets from Miloša Bajića to Laze Kostića, together with the Kej žrtava racije and Beogradski kej embankments;
• in Petrovaradin — the Upper and Lower Fortress with the podgrađe below, plus the block of Reljkovićeva, Ostrovskog and Preradovićeva.

The pedestrian zone inside the core sits under a further regime, and on the street the city communal militia polices it. The rules are quoted from the consolidation in force since 7 January 2011. For an address inside those boundaries the answer comes from the city, and we ask in advance.

One language is enough. Neither the Serbian advertising act nor the Act on the Official Use of Languages and Scripts prescribes a language for an advertising message: the second one binds public authorities and public enterprises, not a private advertiser buying a surface from an operator.

The one language duty on a business is the name board. Under art. 20 the business name of a legal entity is written in Serbian and in the minority language in official use where the entity is seated, while the part used as a trademark is exempt from translation. The city itself works in Serbian in Cyrillic, Hungarian, Slovak and Rusyn — the environment the surface hangs in, not a rule about the artwork.

Buses and nothing else: the city has no metro, no tram and no trolleybus. The carrier JGSP Novi Sad, wholly owned by the city, runs urban, suburban and intercity lines with a fleet of 255 vehicles, and sells advertising on those buses itself.

Nor is there a passenger airport of its own. The Civil Aviation Directorate certifies two aerodromes in the whole country, at Belgrade and at Niš; the Čenej aerodrome (LYNS) outside Novi Sad holds a permit for use and serves sport and agricultural aviation. The city puts Belgrade at about an hour by road, and Soko high-speed trains run from there.

October in that series stands above both September and August, and 2024 reads the same way — 57,927 against 47,116. Cruise traffic adds to the hotel flow: the international terminal on the Danube took 403 cruise calls in 2024, and the EXIT festival is held at the Petrovaradin Fortress.
