What outdoor advertising costs and what drives the price

There is no single national rate card: a billboard on an arterial road and a billboard on a regional bypass are priced differently. Rate-card prices sit in the city catalog, and a manager puts the final quote together in AZN.

Baku and the rest of the country

Baku has the highest prices in the country: the seafront avenues and the business centre cost more than residential quarters of the same capital. Sumgait, Ganja and the roads between cities run well below the Baku level.

The term of the structure permit

A permit is issued for a year at most, and a booking cannot run past its term. A long campaign at one address is sometimes assembled from two periods, so we check the dates against the permit before the quote rather than after.

Artwork built around Azerbaijani

The Azerbaijani text takes the larger part of the area, a block in another language follows it and stays under a third of the layout. An imported layout is usually rebuilt for this rule, and that is a separate job rather than a translation.

The product category

Tobacco is banned outdoors entirely, and so is alcohol stronger than five per cent. Licensed goods can run, but the licence goes into the permit application, and that time has to be planned for.

Digital screen or printed board

A screen is sold as impressions in a loop; a printed board carries one creative for the whole term.

Term and volume

The longer the campaign and the more addresses in the request, the lower the price per space.

How to rent a billboard: four steps

Four steps from choosing addresses to launch. We'll confirm free dates and terms before anything is signed.

  1. Choosing sites

    A city, a format, a district or specific addresses on the map. What you tick goes into a list.

  2. Request

    Send us the list and your campaign dates. A manager replies during business hours and clarifies the brief.

  3. Quote and hold

    We check availability with the board owners and price the quote. If an address is taken, we'll try to negotiate the current advertiser's move off it, and if that doesn't work, find you an equivalent board nearby.

  4. Artwork and launch

    We'll tell you the artwork specs, print, and install. After launch we send a placement report.

Baku sets the level, the regions run well below it, and inside the capital the spread between the seafront avenues and residential quarters is wider than between two cities. What can stand between you and the address you want

4 reasons a board can turn out to be unavailable or the artwork can fail approval.

The Azerbaijani text outranks any other on the board

A block in another language goes after the Azerbaijani text, takes up a smaller area than it does, and may not exceed one third of the whole layout. It is a rule about composition rather than translation: an imported international layout is usually rebuilt rather than translated.

A permit runs for a year at most

A permit to place advertising in open space runs for no more than one year. It is issued for the whole country by the State Advertising Agency, and only inside the Icherisheher and Qala reserves by the reserve administration. The duty is paid within five working days of the notification.

Prices on artwork must be in manat

Advertising may use only the units of measurement permitted in the country, and a product price has to be shown in the national currency — the sole exception is duty-free shops. An international layout quoting dollars or euros has to be reworked before print.

Tobacco is out entirely, strong alcohol off the street

Advertising tobacco and tobacco products is banned outright, and alcohol stronger than five per cent may not be placed in open space. Beer and low-alcohol drinks stay, but artwork for licensed goods has to carry the licence number, its date of issue and the issuing body.

If the address you want is taken

A taken address in Azerbaijan is an address with a known date. A permit for a structure runs for a year at most, so the owner names the day the side comes free instead of simply saying it is booked. After that there is only one question: does that date fall inside your campaign.

  1. We find out the date the side comes free

    We ask the owner of the structure when the current campaign ends and when the permit expires. It runs no longer than a year, so the date is always known in advance — there is nothing to guess at.

  2. We show the neighbouring sides in the same traffic

    The other side of the same structure, the next support along the direction of travel, the nearest address on the same avenue. We send photographs and the surface cards.

  3. We watch the address until it frees up

    If no substitute works, we keep the address under watch and come back to you by the date named. We also time the campaign start to it when your dates are not fixed.

Most of the time this closes on the first call: either the free-up date falls inside your campaign, or we take the neighbouring side in the same traffic.
