we bargain them down for you

We count sides, not structures: one billboard often carries two or more. We'll check your dates against your list before quoting.

Cities

Cities with billboards and screens

The widest choice is in the largest cities, but there are boards in regional capitals and small towns too.

8 formats, and Pillars is the most common.

Prices

What outdoor advertising costs and what drives the price

There is no single national rate card: a billboard on an arterial road and a billboard on a regional bypass are priced differently. Rate-card prices sit in the city catalog, and a manager puts the final quote together in EUR.

Format and size

A Großfläche 18/1 is nine square metres of paper, a Mega-Light is the same area in a backlit case on a pedestal, and a Ganzsäule hands a whole advertising column to a single advertiser. The formats are standardised, so prices compare between cities directly.

Place and traffic

Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt cost the most, the eastern states noticeably less. Within a city, a station hub or a central retail street costs more than a board in a residential quarter.

Digital screen or printed board

A screen is sold as impressions in a loop; a printed board carries one creative for the whole term.

Trade-fair weeks

During Hannover Messe, IFA in Berlin, gamescom in Cologne and the Oktoberfest in Munich the inventory in the host city goes earlier than in other windows: the demand arrives with an industry that is in town for a week. Those decades book ahead, and discounting is rare.

Decades instead of months

Classic printed outdoor in Germany is booked in decades of 10 or 11 days with fixed start dates, not from the 1st to the 30th. It shows up in the price and in how the campaign calendar falls.

Term and volume

The longer the campaign and the more addresses in the request, the lower the price per space.

How it works

How to rent a billboard: four steps

Four steps from choosing addresses to launch. We'll confirm free dates and terms before anything is signed.

  1. Choosing sites

A city, a format, a district or specific addresses on the map. What you tick goes into a list.

  2. Request

Send us the list and your campaign dates. A manager replies during business hours and clarifies the brief.

  3. Quote and hold

We check availability with the board owners and price the quote. If an address is taken, we'll try to negotiate the current advertiser's move off it, and if that doesn't work, find you an equivalent board nearby.

  4. Artwork and launch

We'll tell you the artwork specs, print, and install. After launch we send a placement report.

Questions

Common questions about advertising in Germany

Placement costs most in Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt; in the eastern states the same formats cost noticeably less. The formats themselves are standardised, so the price of the same site is easy to compare between cities. The cost is on the surface card where the owner has published it, and invoices are issued in EUR; send the addresses and the dates and we will build the quote.

Rules

What can stand between you and the address you want

3 reasons a board can turn out to be unavailable or the artwork can fail approval.

A board here counts as a building

An advertising structure in Germany is a building matter: it goes up on a permit from the building authority under the building code of its own federal state, and a site in public space needs a separate special-use consent. There are sixteen codes, one per state, so an identical medium clears under different rules in Bavaria and in Berlin.

There has been no tobacco on boards since 2022

Outdoor advertising for tobacco has been banned since 1 January 2022, for heated tobacco since 1 January 2023, and for e-cigarettes and refill containers since 1 January 2024. One exception is left: the exterior surfaces, and the shop windows belonging to them, of specialist trade premises.

Alcohol is limited only by self-regulation

Germany has no statutory outdoor ban on alcohol: the category is governed by the German Advertising Council's code. It is not law, but media owners apply it when they accept artwork, so a borderline idea is worth checking before print.

A taken address frees up on a decade boundary

A taken board in Germany is not waited out until the first of the month: printed outdoor here is booked in stretches of 10 or 11 days, so the next free window at that address opens on a decade boundary. We name that date straight away and show what can be taken in the same traffic flow until it arrives.

  1. We check which decade the current booking ends on

We ask the media owner when the current booking ends. That date falls on the end of a decade, so the answer comes back as a date rather than as "some time in the autumn".

  2. We shortlist addresses in the same traffic flow

We take the neighbouring structures on the same direction of travel and in the same view: the pedestrian flow at a station, or the exit onto the same arterial road. We send them with the price and the free decades.

  3. We book the nearest free decade

We hold the address for exact start and end dates, and they are visible in the quote. If you need to be seen sooner, we run on the shortlisted neighbours and move over once the address frees up.

You get back the date of the nearest free decade at that address and a list of neighbouring sites you can take until then.

  • A free window opens on a decade, not on the 1st
  • A decade is 10 or 11 days
  • Start and end dates are visible in the quote
